Both TEMPUS and upturn are run by Tempus Entertainment Pty Ltd. We’d rather say so up front.
What it does
- Distributes your release to the blockchain. Audio and artwork are stored on IPFS. Credits, rights and royalty splits are written to LUKSO.
- Plays on P1 and beyond. Releases play on P1 and on any platform that reads them. No account needed to listen.
- Keeps the credits attached. Every contributor, including your mixing and mastering engineer, is named in the record for good.
Good to know
- It sits outside the traditional streaming ecosystem. upturn doesn’t deliver to Spotify or Apple Music and doesn’t collect streaming royalties, so many artists use it alongside a traditional distributor.
- It’s permanent. Once a release is published, the on-chain record stays. It can be taken out of upturn’s own directory, but not off the chain.
The terms, in full
- Cost: free. There’s no service fee and no subscription. You pay only the LUKSO network fee for publishing, usually a fraction of a cent, from your own wallet. upturn never receives it.
- Rights: you keep all of them. upturn takes no ownership, no exclusivity, no publishing share and no commission. You grant only the technical licence needed to store and publish what you upload.
- What you need: a LUKSO Universal Profile, set up through a browser extension.
- It isn’t an investment. An upturn release is a record of authorship and rights, not a financial product.
How it fits with a TEMPUS master
Get the record finished here, then release it on upturn with the credits in place, alongside any other distributor you use.
